Codes of Cobra

Iztok Kovač

The point of deparutre for Codes of Cobra is Trbovlje. Iztok Kovač`s birthplace. Trbovlje is a mining town in industiral Slovenia that for Kovač simbolizes the mythical essence of Eastern Europe.
Kovač blends his collaborative film work, which includes an extraordinara mix of internaional dancers, with live dancing on stage. The live dancers strike up a dialogue with the images on the screen - an echoing of the continual questioning of the parameters between improvised and set choreography that is Kovač`s constant fascination. Codes of Cobra is suffused with intricate structures, human emotions and mischievous exchanges.

Kovac is constructing a very personal language out of larger exigencies of his geographical situation. The work is accompanied by music by Croatian composer Krunoslav Levačić, who uses a steam turbine as the principal source of sound. (Judith Mackrell)
