5. PLESNA NACIONALA – Slovenian National Dance Gathering

30 November 2013, Španski Borci Cultural Centre

Through short excerpts from performances or projects in development, Plesna NACIONALA, Slovenian national dance gathering, will showcase the characteristics, views, ideas and potentials of Slovenian contemporary dance.

The idea of a condensed showcase presentation of Slovenian contemporary dance at a public event first came to life in June 2005 within Statehood Day ceremony at the central Trg Republike Square in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. We have since aimed to preserve and develop a contemporary dance presentation of this nature.

This year, the programme is for the first time divided into three sections (PITCHING SESSION, U20 in PRO) and the accompanying Info@Ples (Info@Dance). We are delighted to welcome Bettina Masuch, John Ashford and Honne Dohrmann, established and renowned dance professionals, at this year’s Plesna NACIONALA, who will assist us in selecting a work for coproduction from within the Pitching Session applications.

28 projects will be presented within three sections featuring exciting young authors, new artistic ideas in development and diverse formats, and in the evening programme 17 works by authors who all marked this year’s contemporary dance production in unique ways.

Nacionala is a gathering and a social event, an exchange of experiences and ideas. Dear audience, dear art and culture enthusiasts, artists, producers, programmers and all of you who just happened to stop by today, Nacionala is here for you!

PROGRAMME

15:00 - PITCHING SESSION (Main Hall)
/ Pitching Session is a new section within Plesna NACIONALA aimed at discovering new formats in dance presentation. It is an exchange of ideas, views, approaches, practices and poetics of diverse authors, but it is also an exchange of opinions among authors, and between the authors and the audience. The presentations are limited to 10-minutes, and are followed by Q&A.

We have invited renowned international dance professionals to attend this session: Bettina Masuch, director of Tanzhaus nrw from Düsseldorf, Berlin Tanz Im August festival, and Spring Dance festival in Utrecht, John Ashford, director of Aerowaves network and the former director of The Place in London, and Honne Dohrmann, director of dance programme at Staatstheater National Theatre in Mainz, director of Internationale Tanztage Oldenburg and Tanz Bremen festival. From among the presentations within this session, they will select one project and propose it for co-produced in Španski Borci in 2014.

18:00 - U20 (Main Hall)
/ U20 presents 7-minute excerpts from the works of authors under 20 years of age. This section enables young authors to present their works on the stage, to establish contacts with the dance scene and to network, while allowing them to see all other sections at Plesna NACIONALA.

19:00 (Part 1)  and
20:00 (Part 2) - PRO (Main Hall)
/ The PRO section, a format established in previous years, is intended for dance professionals (over 20) who will present up short excerpts from their new works.
8 works in the first part and 9 in the second will be presented by diverse authors who all marked this year’s contemporary dance production in unique ways.

21:30 – Party (nternacionala Café)
/ Since socialising among dance authors and professionals is at the heart of Plesna NACIONALA, the evening will continue with a party.

All day: Info@Ples (Internacionala Café)
/ Info@Ples (Info@Dance) is an all-day fair presenting cultural institutions, societies, schools and other organisations active in the contemporary dance field.
