Members of the international dance company EnKnapGroup, based in Španski Borci Cultural Centre and existing for 6 years, set out in a duo and trio on an artistic journey along with students from the Academy of Visual Arts AVA, Ljubljana. The trip yielded two performances, which coincidentally deal with a similar subject-matter – subconsciouss, imagination, dreams ... – but with an entirely different set of tools and media. Due to the dancer’s collaboration with young visual artists, both performances are visually stunning, employing a complex use of video, set and light design in a combination with music and spoken workd. The performances play between the physical and the mental, moving from the rational, linear, logical world into the world of the imagination.

What Remains

With our broken wings we are fluttering underneath the grey sky
Bloody feathers falling to the soil yet
We awake from a vivid dream in a black and white world
Confused bliss of emotions hurts us still
Episode characters acted like main role
In this great joint film
Which we’ll all vitness
If we disappear forever from time
But until then
We tread in a monoton uselessness
Eachother into the mud
So we understand
There is no end.

What Remains is an interdisciplinary multimedia performance intertwining movement/dance, film , music and literature. It found conceptual bases in Romain Gary’s novel La vie devant soi (written under the pseudnym Emile Ajar). However, it is not an adaptation of the novel but rather functions complementary to it within a scope of different media, as an addition to the novel, as an invented extra chapter. The film and dance conjure up on the stage a mesh up of reality, dreams, memories and fantasies. It is through the latter that tre traces of both horror and beauty, both inevitably connected, are drawn up.

What Happens When You Touch It

’All of a sudden the sun began to shine so strongly that the sunshine broke through the clouds and it ripped the ground and it went through my face, leaving a hole through my head. I felt no pain and actually I could touch the sunbeam. I took it out from my head and it became a laser sword...’
‘What happens when you touch it’ is a performance, which plays between the physical and the mental, moving from the rational, linear, logical world into the world of the imagination. It is a game of impossibilities and warped reality filled with personal and collective consciousness and sub consciousness, where the stage is transformed into a fragmented door to another world. We communicate our thoughts, ideas and wishes, our non-sense, our illogical stories, the absurdity that keeps us sane, the unrealised wishes, the hidden aggression, the luminescent beauty, the gory details and bizarre connections, the obsessions, the worst-case scenarios and the superhuman abilities. Welcome to the playground of our minds. How does it look through your eyes?
